Ok so I am keeping my 5' King Kutter Mower. I checked it and the blade seems to be fairly dull. Do I need to sharpen it and if so how often?

Is this a finishing mower (for your law) or a rotary cutter?

A 5' finishing mower would have two or three blades and they should be sharp. They should also be balanced to one another. I have mine sharpened every two years, but my lawn isn't a "Home and Garden".

If it's a rotary cutter, the blade should have a 1/32 to 1/16 flat on the "cutting" edge.

BTW, if you have a manual for the mower (or cutter), it should describe the process for removal and sharpening. If you don't have a manual, contact King Kutter and get one (might even be one for download on their website).

I like to keep mine sharpened.
I sharpen the blades on my King Kutter brush mower every year or 2 with a 4 1/2" angle grinder while the blades are still on the mower.

if you buy new blades for a shredder, you'll notice there is no edge on them. they are very dull. first time I bought new blades, i asked my dealer if I was supposed to sharpen them. hey had a quick reply of "NO". sharpening the blades weakens them. shredders are not "cutters", they are "rippers".

If cutting grass/weeds I like sharp blades. For brush/saplings I like them dull so they "shred" and do not leave sharp "stumps" that could puncture a tire.
