Mower Tires Crushed Flat for Shipment - Any Advise ????

That happened to me on an old rider mower I ended up selling for 50 bucks. I used some fire expander

It took a couple attempts but worked.

"fire expander"....good one. :laughing: Last year I bought 3-rib tires for my Cub Cadet. They were 6-ply and STIFF. I too used some "fire expander" with great success! :thumbsup:

I've had a problem with knobbies on my dirt bike being flattened to the point that it was painful to my fingers to mount them. I put a tube in the tire and inflated it without putting it on the rim. After a day or two, it was much easier to mount. You don't need to have the proper size tube. A bigger one will work fine.

Carefully spray a measured amount of ether or something similarly flammable into the tire after mounting it on the rim, then light it off. If you got it right, the tire is mounted. Too little and the tire doesn't mount. Too much and the tire explodes.

Note to self, buy mower tires from TSC or a dealer not online.

If anyone is thinking about using fire expansion please use a very long stick, 6-8 foot and place a barrier you can reach around with the flame on the end of the stick between you and the tire. I use a adjustable tie down strap around the middle of the tire after removing the valve stem core. Removal of the valve core allows more air volume to enter the tire while you are slowly tightening the strap. Be careful because the strap will tighten quickly as the air pressure expands the tire after it seats against the rim. Once the tire is seated to the rim, reinstall the valve core and inflated to desired pressure.
