Hey gang,

Wanted to know what folks thought about the difference between a rotary mower (probably flail style) and a disc mower. (run off a B7800) I was trying to find an exiting thread about this....

Primary use is for a couple of acres of reed grass. Some of it is fairly soft, about 3 feet high and some of it shows up in dense clumps that can get about 5 feet high.

I'm thinking of the flail mower, one with a slip clutch to save the shear pins....but I'm still new to this and would like to hear from the "salts"

I don't have any experience with a flail mower but I have a King Kutter 4ft rotary which I've used behind a B7100 and my B2400. B7100 only13.5 PTO HP and it pulled it through tall (4-5ft) heavy pasture weeds OK. The thicker clumps would load it pretty good but never had any trouble. Make sure you know the area your mowing because you can't see too much when the weeds are over your head!!

Thanks...I guess the worst case scenario is that I have to take a couple runs at it.
