We had several pines dropped last year and I want the mess cleaned up before Bigfoot (or similar creatures) move in. Not having tackled a job like this with my new machine, I was wondering if something like the BXPANDED forks (or similar) would be useful? I'd like something cheap, that would work well on the FEL but bear in mind I don't know how to weld.

Thanks!

I have cleaned up enough trees to get a good idea. I use my 5" chipper right on the spot. The larger wood is your choice 16" lengths for the stove or 12' to 20' for ???.

A toothbar on the FEL will help you be able to hold a 10 inch log on the bucket edge, I regularily move logs 10 inch by 9ft long over to wood pile to be cut and split later. Any bigger you will need to drag with three point hitch and chains or other sophistications .

Toothbar when angled slightly, will push many of the remaining branches away or into brush piles , the teeth randomly get caught into the branches while you push , then you lift up and you got a good bucket full, .....now of course forks will hold more , but will still only hold the same amount of weight when it comes to log size , in other words your bucket can only handle one fair size log anyway no matter how long the forks. Forks can hold more brush.

See your specs on your tractors about weight the bucket can lift , now imgaine that weight being further out on the forks , so then even less can be carried than the specs state.

Think about the Rad and other delicate parts that stay branches have an affinity for. They like protection.

How far are you going to move this stuff?

Take a look at this old thread. Might answer your question.;)

If you want to go REALLY cheap, check out the elcheapo deluxe wood forks I made. I threw these together in 1/2 hour with scrap wood. They bolted into holes in the side of my bucket drilled for the toothbar. I reinforced the holes in the wood with a couple scraps of plywood. These were intended for a couple loads of moving brush but I used them all summer for moving logs, pallets, brush, tools, even the 8' x 8' walls of my cupola. I did eventually buy some steel forks but for the investment (zero $ and very little time) these worked great. I had a half dozen 6' long big oak logs on them at times. I couldn't believe they didn't break! YMMV
