On the tail end of that big snowstorm last weekend my JD 855 CUT sprung a major hydraulic leak, major enough that I don't want to fire it up to move it to the barn for repairs. The operators manual says do NOT tow or push, then proceeds to tell you how to do it. I'm assuming that the concern is heat buildup in the transmission without the benefit of fluid circulation through the oil cooler. Is that correct, or are there other concerns? I only need to move it 100 yds and I'm thinking moving it according to their instructions at low speeds is not an issue. Anyone know otherwise?

I would think 100 yds would not be a problem. Tractor in neutral will have little load and should not generate much heat.
Towing at high speed would.

I'd think putting it in neutral would be safe, especially for that distance. Overseas variants of the tractor had (IIRC) plugs up front to connect lights for when towing the tractor down the road.

The concern is no oil flow if the wheels are turning . What they are telling you is there is a release lever or rod to disengage the pump and diff to move short distance . There will be no low speed , it is Hydrostatic transmission AND NO FLUID WITH ENGINE RUNNING means POW .

The heat is not the problem . The swash plates and bearings are . You need to pick up the *** end and or skid to the shop . Just trying to help , good luck , Kevin .
