This is sort of a rethread of an old thread from another area but there were no responses so I figured I would try in this section. I have talked to a couple of JD people and there seems to be a lot of confusion around this.
I have seen a couple of 48 backhoes on CL and was curious. I stopped in at the local JD deal and the salesperson went to somewhere on his system that gave him tractor compatibility information for the 48 hoe. The 3X20 series is compatible. He printed me out a sheet with the specifics. Based on this sheet, you need (beyond the power beyond hydraulics):
1) an "adapter weldment plate or subframe adapter" part number BM19566 which is the same part number for the 4300 and 4310 so I am thinking they are interchangeable???:confused3:
2) "3x20 tractors require rockshaft assist mounting brackets and hardware" part number LVB25611. The part number for the 4X00 and 4X10 is not the same in this case leading me to believe they are different (part number BM19564 for the 4X00 and 4x10).
The gentleman was not sure why some part numbers start with BM and others start with LVB so I let that go. I then talked to another individual about this who was also not sure about what could or could not interchange.
Anyway - if someone has done this I would love to know if I could just swap the weldment plate and mounting brackets to my 3320 from an older model (in this case one from either a 4300 or from a 4310). Based on the part numbers, it looks like number 1 would work and theoretically transfer to my tractor but not number 2, though the salesperson was not sure why (and the other guy did not think so).
Regardless, I don't think the weldment plate part is still available (BM19566 )from John Deere (it appears the mounting bracket kit LVB25611 still is available based on their JD parts website) so I think I will at least have to happen upon a used weldment plate and thus I need to figure out what will fit from what tractor. I did find a BM19566 weldment plate on ebay but I would like to have a better sense that it would fit first!
Second but related question - where there any major issues with the 48 hoe that I should be aware of when evaluating a used one? I guess any general backhoe buying stuff I should know? Can't really justify a new backhoe but would love to find a reasonable used one.
Sorry for the long post. Thank You as always for your help! I really appreciate your time and knowledge! - Dana
