I was wondering if a guy could mount a motor on a pto driven bushhog and make it into a pull behind cutter. Has anyone tried this if so I would be interested in how they did it. Reason I was wondering is I have two small pull tractors that I could use more efficiently. BF

Sure why not? However most air cooled small engines run around 3600 rpm and the pto is 540 rpm so you would have to reduce the speed if you are using the gearbox. In the process think about a tractor mounted kill switch just in case something happens and you need to shut it down. I personally never tried it but the amish/mennonites' do it plenty.

You can also put a hydraulic motor on the bushhog & run hoses to a tractor hydraulic system, motor driven pump, or pto pump. MikeD74T

How big of a brushhog and how big of a motor (I assume you mean gas engine?) do you have to start with? If it's an electric or hydraulic motor, please correct me.

Really? Wow...I learn something new every day. I thought that gas and electric devices were verbotten for the most part...for the Amish anyway.

Travis:

I put a Bush Hog Squealer 48" mower on my Kubota L4330 FEL and drive it with a PTO hydraulic pump. It works pretty good in heavy brush like you seem to have. I also put stump grinder teeth (with replaceable carbide inserts) on the underside of the blades so that it cuts practically level with the ground, and it cuts very clean because the carbide stays sharp (until you hit a rock). There should be some pictures that I posted a few months back, and I have made several "improvements" since then. If you are interested send me a private e-mail and I will get you some updated pictures.

Blackfoot,
Swisher and bush hog already make them...
Swisher Mower & Machine Co.: Products: Trail Mowers

Travis,
What you need is one of these...

They mow in places where you can't drive and just eat up what is in the way. Start at the top of a tree and just let it eat thru to the bottom, or just take the limbs off if that is what you want. Reach is about 25 feet in each direction, including up. As much as that tractor weighs, the mower can pick up the front wheels by just reaching out a little too far towards the rear. Keeps you on your toes, no question about it.
Now, about hydraulic decks...

I bought this thing to make what you guys are thinking about, but came across the 7710 with the Turner mower, so i really don't need it.Anyone interested?
