For the last 4 years, I've gone thru 4 different lights of this type, bought at different places each time. Some years back living in Texas I had these lights and not any problems at all. But every one of them has gone out or don't perform right.

I've tended to buy the cheaper ones, but those look no different than the more expensive ones. I'll spend more money on them....IF I know they will last better.

The spot this is at, I've been using the motion detector setting, but now have decided on a few changes and what it to be dusk to dawn....with a light off the same pole directed to a flagpole for night lighting. How much to I have to spend to get something decent, and what is one that will work.

I suspect cheaper ones is the problem. I have one, that doesn't come on as good as it used to. I cleaned it. I have been thinking about springing for better one.

Some of them seem to be cheap and disposible. But when they are on the peak of a gabel roof, I would spend more not to go up again.

Being in Texas, heat probably wrecks everything too.

The one I have on my shop, is a mercury vapor and it was expensive when I bought it 15 years ago. It lasted until about 2 years ago, and the electrician replaced he sensor and it works fine now. The cheapo that covers my drive way is a PITA, and I can't keep bulbs in it.

On and off will kill bulbs.

Honeywell one? Is it the same as the Amazon link or similar? You have link to the Honeywell one? That looks bright.

Says do no use in enclosed space due to heat. But also says not water proof. Does so outdoor applications. Like to see what kind fixture they say to use.

Not as bright as very vapor, 35W. But ok to replace flood. Mercy vapor shown in other thread is 7700 lumens, this one 3000. Have to get 80W for $95. Depends on how much light you need.

Also depends how it shines $95 is to much for me to risk. Maybe try a little. I am not sure how mature this is in the bigger LEDs. I see more small ones, but I don't look either.

I.ve had issues with this as well. I also tend to buy cheaper lights as that's the way I am! I wouldn't mind spending more money if I knew the light would last. One problem we've always had is the light above the outside door. The vibration from slamming the door shut seems to shorten the life of anything we install. Back in the day when I didn't have an automatic light then I would use a rough service bulb for longer life.

I switched to a auto on/off daylight sensing one and had trouble with the flood lights burning out. I switched those to led and the burning out issue is resolved but I can't seem to get any life out of dusk to dawn auto on/off setups. One of these days I plan on moving the light to under the eves instead of above the door. My thinking is that maybe the vibration from slamming the door won't destroy the automatic light as soon.

I found a $13 dusk to dawn adaptor at Home Depot. It's indoor use but I figured that right under the eves it would be ok. So far so good. It's about a three inch long adaptor for in between the bulb and the light socket. I'm planning on setting up a few more of these around the yard as the price is right.
