In the past I have advocated moth balls and used them myself in a classic car I have in a pole barn. This year I spread them in a corner mice like in a tool shed out back near my cabin. They always build in there and don't really hurt anything but I figured, what the heck.

I was cutting firewood today and burning some brush so I went into the shed for a rake. There is a mouse nest right on top of a pile of moth balls.

I'm wondering if moth balls is an old wives tale of if the balls are EPA approved now and don't work.:)

They seem to do a fair job of keeping our neighbors cats out of the flower beds. Back in the spring I went to the local hardware store to grab a couple boxes. I was suprized to find them located in a conspicuous spot near the cash register under the watchful eye of the clerk. Seems they are now one of the multitudes of ingredients in making Meth.

I know they work good at keeping ants out of well power boxes..

Last year I had the bright idea of spreading a three foot wide mothball barrier in front of my garage doors to keep squirrels out. Then one day I saw a squirrel wandering right down the middle of the mothball barrier. It didn't stop him at all.
In my opinion they don't work. You might try fox urine, it stinks, sprayed on your tires and chassis. It's on the web.
After having my outside parked truck damaged five times, and the last to a $500 repair, I found the solution to my squirrel problem. It's an air gun.

Aren't they MOTH balls???
Use MICE balls or SQUIRREL balls if that's the problem...

Peanut butter and a rat trap works for me. Keep out of reach of the pets...

They seem to like the bait chunks I bought at the grain store.

I too tried the moth balls with no success. I had a rat take up residence under the hood of my truck and he was chewing on the battery case, that has to taste nasty. This time I tried fabric softener sheets which an old RVer friend assured me would work. That rotten rat gathered up all the sheets I placed under the hood and made him a snazzy nest out of them! A 22 cal. Pellet from an air rifle was effective where the others failed.

off topic

According to a microsoft memo that I read a long time ago, european mouse balls are smaller than american mouse balls.
