My brother-in-law works construction and swears Listerine works to repel mosquitos.

I never heard of that. I've wondered recently whether they've changed their forumula, or if it's just me, but in the past Listerine seemed so strong that I usually cut it about 50/50 with water when I used it to rinse or gargle, but with the newest bottle, I use it full strength.

On my place we have some shallow pools back in the woods that add up to probably half an acre and only dry up during very dry spells. I was out last spring dropping dunks in the pools and had forgotten to apply any bug repellant and my bare arms were covered in squiters. Fortunately I had remembered to throw a bottle of this [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Repel-94108-98-1-Percent-Repellent-4-Ounce/dp/B004H89KFC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1336834617&sr=8-2"]Repel 100[/ame] (98% deet) in my pack and sprayed my arms and the back of my neck and just a dab on my cheeks and for the rest of the afternoon I would walk through clouds of the little buggers and not a single one alighted, much less bit me.

Skeeters are just a pest -- black flies or no-see-ums --- now those will take a chunk -- interesting reading on mosquito repellants can be found on the Center for Disease control under West Nile virus (another reason to forget "experimenting" with Listerine etc). Our black fly season is in full swing so I will smell like deet for a few weeks.

Last couple of mornings and evenings we have had tons of mosquitoes. We have a marshy creek that goes through our place and with all the wet weather and now warming up the population has really exploded. I use a product called Muskol, comes in a spray can and contains 23.5% Deet. Just picked up another large can as I think I will go through the first one pretty quick.

I found that I am allergic to most of the sprays, and most of the time it is easier to deal with the mosquitos than the sprays, Years ago we had a little bottle of repellant made by 6 12 that would take the varnish off you shotgun stock! We never had to apply it, just open it up and sit on the ground next to you and the mosquitos wouldn't bother you. Never did know what the make-up of it was, it was an old bottle when I got it the only thing left said 6-12, but it was the best I had ever seen.
