I know there's no getting rid of them unfortunately, but as I'm fighting the urge to itch the 50 bites I have right now in inopportune locations like knuckles I'm a bit miffed and they all need to die a slow painful death...

Anywho, I live on 5 acres near a creek bed that is very shallow, has 20' or so of reed canary grass on my side of the trees, and in the trees is about a 100' wide swath of trees and nearly standing water all year. In the trees is not my property so I can't go doing much in there although I'm sure I'd get no complaints. Past the creek down stream is a couple ponds that are used for irrigation.

Right now I have a box fan by the garage with some window screen on it, it's catching some of the stupid ones but it isn't enough... I've seen the "mosquito magnet" which looks to take a BBQ tank of propane and electricity along with some attractant that all needs refilled every month for around $300, then there's some UV and fan units for around $200 both doing about an acre

Any other options? If I covered an acre that would do the important areas around the house where I spend the most time. I just got the majority of the reed canary grass down last weekend which should help...

Any other options?

Perhaps, the last option?

^^^^^

That could be your only option, although some of them would probably survive to bite again.

I was listening to a specialist on the radio yesterday about how the methods they use to eradicate works, apparently the component they use will adhere to the trees and the mosquitoes pick it up when they land on it. I'm not sure if thy can use it with that much water around though.

This doesn't get rid of them, but so far, no bites this season.

Sawyer Premium Insect Repellent Lotion with 20% Picaridin, hasn't failed us yet.

Permethrin which is a offshoot of the chrysanthemum flower and a Stihl Backpack Fogger but don't spray the stream just the reeds and standing water area. I have used this for 20 years and it works. This setup will cost $600 plus $100 for the materials.

There are some "garlic spray" too and I think that needs to be applied every few days - the permethrin lasts two weeks.

Permethrin is also highly toxic to fish, so unless the water is isolated from the stream it would be a bad idea. He also doesn't own that area.

I do the Cutter fogger think about 1-2 hours before hitting the firepit and hot tub. Wont get rid of them permanently but you'll be able to enjoy your yard for the evening.
Beyond that is to get rid of or treat standing water, you can treat them with mosquito killer pucks from Home Depot-wont harm fish or frogs. As for moving water you dont have to worry about that for mosquitoes, only black flies.
I plan on getting the Patriot system next year-worth the 300 a month IMO if I can use my back yard.

In stagnant water a tiny amount of fuel will greatly stunt breeding but then it is now to late, next year.

people should be required to either get rid of stagnant water, or have it properly treated to prevent mosquitoes. what's the sense in allowing mosquitoes to breed?. I know, either laziness or Terrorists!..

This will not get rid of them but it will keep them away from you.

Eat lots of onions and garlic throughout mosquito season. They can smell it and don't like it.

The drawback is no one else will want to be around you either.
