Good to hear, battery is relatively cheap and easy replacement.

Some years ago i had a jeep cj1 that i had rebuilt the engine also thought i'd replace the 6volt generator and battery with an alternator and 12volt battery. The battery didn't really fit where the old one did...and well, it was just fine perched there...until the hill climb. Jeep engine died on the way up because the battery fell off it's little perch and shorted on the frame. Not so much fun backing down and worse with out power on a hill that really was interested in bringing the front end up. It mostly slid back down the hill with me clenching the steering wheel trying to correct so it wouldn't go side ways. But i did come away with a notion, not to leave my battery unsecured.

Glad to hear you got it running. As a word of caution, NEVER short out the battery with a screwdriver between the + and - terminals. Buy a cheap meter, and use that. A battery blowing up near your face and hands will not leave pretty results.

Ha! That reminded me of getting my pickup truck stuck on a hill in the woods trying to get my row boat out of a swamp. Backing out up the hill my battery tray rusted through, came loose, tossed the battery into the headlight and smashed it out from behind aaaand I got stuck. After several hours and a kind farmer, I got the truck out. On the ride home I got pulled over by a state cop for a headlight out. He came up to my window, I was covered in swamp mud, told him why the headlight was out and I was on my way home. He was kind and let me go with no ticket or warning, etc... but some advice to patch up that rusty pig of a truck for safety sake if anything else.
