I got a new used box blade for my G174. My problem is the lift arms don稚 raise it high enough. I clocked the upper arms so they just miss the seat but if I angle the back of the blade down to spread soil, it doesn稚 have much clearance when raised. I would like to get shorter lift rods, but finding them is the issue. Is there a reason not to replace the shackle connection on the upper arm with a pin type connection? That would make finding shorter lift rods easier. Or is there a better solution that I may be missing?

Are there multiple holes in the lower 3pt arms where the linkage can be adjusted? If the 3pt has position control is it not adjusted properly?

Check for stops on the control handle. Many have stops for the lower and even the upper position.

I think I exhausted the adjustments I have currently. There are only one pair of holes on each end of the lift rods. I was thinking about drilling a second pair. If I do, how much clearance do I need to the top of the fork? I did play with the upper arm adjustment including clocking it on the splines and the stop for the lever. As it is now the arms almost hit the seat with me in it. I could and probably should go on a diet, but I知 looking for a more immediate solution. Is there a quicker way to raise the seat? The seat spring sits metal on metal. Is there supposed to be a rubber pad there?

I measured the lower shackles of the links. They have 11/16 holes for 5/8 pins. The adjustable link has less head room. There are witness marks on the links that shows about 1 clearance. I don稚 think I should take all that but if I did and drilled a hole 1 above the old one, that only leaves 5/16 of steel between the holes. That sounds too close. The fixed link has almost 5/8 more room. I can comfortably drill a pair of holes 1-1/8 higher. That would leave 7/16 between the holes. The links have 7/16 under the holes so that痴 fine. The adjustable link can be made about 1-1/2 shorter than the fixed link so I should have plenty room to level it. I may have to swap the links side to side if I need angle though.

Does your machine (BCS probably not) not have multiple holes in the lift arms? My JD 2025R has about 3 holes in the lift arms and 3 in the arms lifting the lift arms. You can monkey around with the holes and get quite a high lift.

No extra holes. I was thinking about drilling them but that doesn稚 really get me much. I still think the right solution is new links. Putting pins in the upper arms increases my link options. Is there a good reason not to do this?

I don't think you are getting it when they are saying lower lift arms. You can get an lot of lift with another hole.

Post a photo showing your setup, then one of the top link at the tractor and the lift arms

Modify the box blade. Lower the pins and top link hole.

This old 4' box blade came with Cat 0 and Cat 1 mounts. Used it on a Wheelhorse garden tractor, the Cat 0 pins where too far above ground level, could not lift it very high:
