More land

Mark.......We recently bought land next to us over here in Gordon county; but it's a state law..........Conservation land has nothing to do with timbering, farming or grazing......ONE CAN NOT develop it. You can do anything else you want with it. This even applies to giving some to your children to build a house on. Yes, it is at least 10 acres; but we save over 50% off of our property taxes by going this route............I hesitate to even mention this cause the government will probably figure out how much money they are loosing.....God bless the USA

I think the bottom line to the thread is check with your local and state officials on what types of easements and "conservation" programs may be afforded/available to you in your immediate area.

It seems I got lucky on taxes. Here in Louisiana we can claim 'homestead exempt" and don't have to pay taxes on your primary residence.

I bought 22 acres with our current house for $60k from a bank after it was foreclosed on. It sat for a while before I bought it five years ago.

This property was an old homestead and is what is left of an original 1400 acres. We have approximately 35 acres fenced and is old enough to do a land acquisition to claim it, but since we're surrounded by at least 500 acres of timber land it doesn't look like anyone is going to contest.

I love having the land, we have some of the only hard wood left for miles. Mostly large live oaks, and some cypress, cedar...etc. I don't mow anything, but our yard. The pastures are taken care of by the horses.

If the timber companies decide to sell around us, we'll try our best to grab whatever we can. I'm all for owning as much land as possible. I many years to come it could make your children or grandchildren a good investment.
