Montana 2740 and 3040

I am looking at the 2 smaller Montana tractors. The 2740 has a Daedong engine. Is this just a rebadged Kioti or is it a LG with just the Daedong engine? The 3040 has a Mitsubishi engine. Same question, is it a rebadged Mitsu or a LG with a Mitsu engine?

Anyone have an opinion on these 2 tractors?

Anyone know what pricing might be with a FEL and R4's?

I know pricing is regional but a ballpark figure would be nice. JD and Kubota and to a much lesser extent, NH, dominate the market in my area. There is a Kioti dealer in the area but he thinks he is selling Kubota's and prices accordingly (Kioti is out). I want a tractor in the high 20's to low 30's in HP with a FEL and toothbar. It will not be used commercially, maybe about 125 to 175 hours a year around my residence.

I don't want to spend what it will take to get a JD/Kubota/NH. I think a lesser known brand, with a lesser price tag and decent quality is all I need. I have heard good things about the Montana and FarmTrac. But if the are not a better value I might as well buy a big 3 brand.

I don't want used unless it has very low hours and is in great shape.

No they are not rebaged Kioti or Mitsubishi machines.
The tractors are made by LG, using a DaeDong and Mitsubishi engines.

From seeing the history of the Mitsu engines, I'd strongly suggest a tractor with a different power plant. I would buy a Rural King Tractor King over a Mitsubishi powered tractor any day. If you have narrowed your choice to two of the Montana tractors, I'd certainly go with the Daedong powered one.

Hello Hard. Both excellent tractors. LG manufactures both tractors and get the engines from Daedong and Mitsubishi for these models. On some of the larger models LG manufactures their own engines.

I guess Dargo has an opinion based on some history of the Mitsubishi diesel engines that would appear to be negative but I saw no links or info on this history.

I believe he is wrong in his feeling on the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries engines. Dargo has been here a while and I am not trying to disrespect him but to throw out something so vague is not good.

If they are good enough for Volvo, New Holland, Ingersol Rand, Kobelco etc....... then they are fine for me. I have personally sold many of the Montana tractors with the Mitsubishi S4L engine and have had exactly 0 problems.

Yes, the Mitsubishi engine model S4L is what is in the Montana 3040 and S4L2 in the Montana 3840. These engines are excellent and will last and last.

The Volvo mini excavators use them, the Large Kobelco excavators use the larger Mitsu engines, The Ingersoll Rand Portable enviromental generators use the S4L and S4L2 as well so I am sure you will find them to be excellent.

I personally like the 3040 for the price difference and that Mitsu engine will impress you. Having said all of this that Daedong engine is also excellent and I have had no problems with those either.

Just wanted to know wht tractors you are referring to that LG makes their own diesel engines.

Also, what relationship do you know about between Montana and TYM? It seems Montana is going to have a TYM class during their next dealer training.

The 4540, 4340 and 4940 are manufactured by LG under original design from Mitsu. as I understand it. The 5740 and all premium compacts are Mitsu.

I really don't know what the next dealer meeting holds. You have one up on me as far as having heard anything.

2740, FEL, R4's, rear filled...$14,500 delivered

3240, FEL, R4's, rear filled...$15,800 delivered

The 3240 and the 2740 both have the 3cyl engine,8x8 shuttle, & two stage clutch. The 3040, while less HP, has the 12x12, independent PTO, & 4cyl.

All three of them are very nice tractors. Just pointing out why the 3040 demands more money.

Not to mention draft, folding roll bar & dual rear remotes. I like the 2740 alot but if I was going to go up I would go with the 3040 as the 3040 is so much more tractor than the 2740 or 3240. Just my .02 worth.

Thanks for you replies but I was not aware of all the extras that come with the 3040. The 2740 or 3240 is more than enough for me. I will not be using the tractor commercially, just around my residence and the few acres I have.

What do you think about the prices I received? I realize that pricing can vary regionally. But there are no other Montana dealers within 150 miles of me to compare with. In general, what do you think?
