Mommy and Daddy Bald Eagles

This is a picture of mother and father bald eagles taken this afternoon on my way back from our place in the country. In their nest are two youngsters (about 10 days old). Sorry about not getting a closer shot, but my optical zoom is lacking. Their nest is a stones-throw away from the highway and the picture was taken from the right-of-way.

Those are sure some big birds sitting in the top of that oak tree, Brent. I have lots of hawks in trees and on power lines at my place in N. Texas, but you folks down around Austin have lots more eagles. Keep us posted on the progress of the youngsters. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The Llano River is just on the other side of their nest. I suppose they chose this spot for the fishing. There were three adults the other day. Their picture made the Austin newspaper the other day with a long article, but the writer didn't divulge the location of the nest (too many kooks willing to take a pot shot at an eagle).

Great shot Brent, and you are right about the crazies who would shoot an eagle let alone any animal just looking to survive.
