modifing tiller

My tiller seems to leave ridges where the skid plates run. I am thinking about widening the leveling board. Does anyone else have this problem with their tiller or has anybody widened the leveler?

I never widened the rear gate on mine, but I understand what you're talking about with the ridges. I would have preferred not having them, but they were not really any problem for me. I just tilled so the skid tracks were not in the rows I was going to plant, and they disappeared the first time it rained.

I have the same trouble with mine , i am going to do the same thing ... not sure how i plan to or when..but it should help.when i put in a new lawn i pull my cultipacker behind my tiller it works pretty good...let us know how you fix yours Bruce

How about putting a plow share on an arm behind each skid?

If I were going to do this (and its a non-issue for me), I'd bolt some plate or a 2x8 board to each end of the flapper piece so I could remove it when I needed to get close to trees/houses/posts/etc.

Heck you could probably use some C-clamp vise grips and just clamp it on..........

This may be too simplistic, but on my final finish pass, I start in the middle and go around and around. Keep the gear box on the outside always because it is the biggest culprit. Finish the ends the same way, gear box outside. Leaves a pretty flat garden. Of course you'll walk all over it and ruin it marking and planting anyway. Can't win.
