Anybody know of a website that lists specs for different grey makes and models? Wanting to research/compare tractors in the 18-24 hp range, with shuttle or power shift tranny and PS. Would like to be able to compare pto types/speeds, 3pt and hydraulic capacities, turning radius, FEL availability,... Specifically thinking about Iseki, Shibura, Mitsubishi, and Yanmar. Thanks...

Do not know of such a site, but do suggest you are overlooking the two most important factors in such a search--reputation of whatever dealer you intend to use, and parts availability.

I hadn't completely forgotten about those items. I thought I'd develop a short list first, and then see if any of those were available in my area.

I actually don't know of too many grey dealers around my neck of the woods (I believe it's a possible conspiracy by the big three, especially the green and orange ones). The closest one I've found via internet, at least 1.5 hours away, carries Iseki, Mitsu, Yanmar, and Zen-Noh according to his website.

I just am having a problem with how much the big three around here are asking even for used units. A beat up, 20 year old tractor w/FEL, 2200+ hours, almost bald tires, bad paint, and multiple dents in every piece of sheet metal still commands a $8k+ asking price.

And the Chinese units (I did find one local dealer about 30 miles away), quite frankly, still scare me too much with regard to dependability.

I figured a reconditioned grey machine was a safer bet.

Probably not. The major manufacturers have more to do than worry about used tractor dealers. Deere and Kubota are not in competition with the grey market. But I digress.

Watch out for the reconditioned tractors, especially those that claim that they are factory refurbished. I am not gonna go into the details. Search under the Yanmar forum for refurbished or reconditioned.
