MK Martin SB75 Snowblower Upgrade

For those with questions about the Meteors, I grabbed this spec page for the new 5-blade models. I have the 60-inch which has a 21-inch fan.

I will measure my 2012 60" model when I go out to plow this morning. I may need to buy the newer one.:(

The hole for my fan is 22" from side to side. The manual says it is 14". I think the manual is full of BS.
I am going to call my dealer and see if he can retro fit the newer 5 blade fan into the 4 blade hole and get back to you all on it.

I just talked to my dealer and he told me that MK Martin/Meteor is still redesigning the blower and fan situation. That the 5 blade was like 'running into a wall of steel'. Not a big enough hole for the snow to get into the fan, in order to get thrown. He also said to run the rpm's at wide open throttle past the 540 rpm pto mark and it will blow farther.

I run my engine at 2900 which is almost 600 PTO RPM, snow blows about 20 feet.

I don't see the connection that is being made between the number of fan blades and throw distance.
There is no physical nor engineering basis.

Throw distance is a function of velocity. RPM X Radius) Friction and "efficiency" losses being considered. (Fan blade profile etc. )

Tons per hour maybe? More blades might work better (if the snow feeds efficiently)

But a three blade four blade, or five blade should all throw the same if the same radius and same rpm.

Is the new 5 blade fan the same diameter as the 4 blade?

Yes, the fan diameter is the same on the both the four and five blade models; they are both 23". What is weird though is that the new SB75 I have was made this year, but MK Martin's website is stating they change the model from a SB75 to a SB78. So it looks like the newest models are coming out as 78" snow blowers instead of 75".

So Martin added 1.5" to each side, but I will bet they have the same guts.

I just connected up my SB68 today, and I noticed the chain was occasionally hitting the edge where it come thru the machine...was looking to see if there was an adjustment somewhere to take some of the slack out of the chain. I couldn't see where this adjustment was...anyone know?

There should be an idler sprocket mounted in a slot between the large and small auger sprockets. It is item #8 as shown on page 15 of the manual:

http://mkmartin.ca/files/manuals/68-72 Meteor Manual.pdf

Loosen the idler sprocket bolt, move it to tighten the chain, and re-tighten.
