Mixing Turf and R4??

I just popped my left front tire, size 25x8.50-14 . It was original and cracked and beat and had a slash (where it ultimately failed) and I beat them like a red-headed stepchild as I use my loader heavilly and do stuff in the woods.

SO - my local tire guy has the R4's (carlisle, correct size) and what appeals to me is (BTW i do cut my lawn with the tractor as well, rear mower deck) is that the R4's get 6 plies while the poor turf tires in the same size are 3 or 4 ply.

that said, i would continue to run the turfs in the rear until THEY fail on me.

As long as the circumference of the R4 is the same I can't see any problems. If it were smaller or larger it would put a strain on the drive train when FWD is engaged but that doesn't appear to be a worry.
I have R1's on mine and as long as you use a little prudence (not cutting tight turns in FWD) they are not too hard on the lawn and I think the smoother R4 would cause even less potential damage.
I vote yes on the R4, especially if that is the tire choice you want to move towards in the future.

As already stated, you must watch the tire diameter very closely, this is because of the 4WD ratio's. Most likely you will not be able to mix different tire type for this reason. You manual (if you have one) should tell you what tire sizes are required.
