My Mitsubishi MT 372D starter isn't working, I can hear it free spin but the solenoid doesn't pop out so it doesn't engage the flywheel. I was wondering would it be better to try and rebuild the starter or just get a 1980 DODGE Colt, 2.6L, 4 cylinder, Manual transmission starter from RockAuto.com for $41.38 delivered.

Let me know what you guys think and thanks for the help.

If you buy the Colt starter, don't let go of your old one.

I see that this thread is a few months old, but I am in need of a new starter for my Mitsubishi 372D. Can you confirm that the Colt you mentioned above will work on this machine?

Sorry i thought i responded to this when you first asked. The cooker starter duos not work for me, I ended up having the starter rebuilt. Did you get your issue resolved?

I know it is 4 years ago but what didn't work with this starter? The auto trans starter looks identical to the mitsu starter but has 8 teeth instead of 9 and the one you got has 9. Hopefully you still keep an eye on the forums. LOL

First thing I'd try is to de grease/clean the bendix.
Chances are that some crud or dry grease or oil is inhibiting proper action.
Brake cleaner or a similar product should do the trick.
