Misdemeanor for operating without a CDL in Colorado

Driving a truck without a commercial license is now a misdemeanor in Colorado

The punishment might not have stopped previous deadly crashes but the law aims to send a preemptive message.

Hopefully with this law it becomes more clear what the rules are for needing a CDL.

And having a CDL wouldn't of fixed any of this. You have one trucking company hiring a guy that has been deported multiple times, and was a citizen of Mexico, and didn't have insurance on the vehicles, the company didn't do proper repairs on their vehicles, and a driver that still drove a faulty vehicle even though he was aware of the faulty brakes. Another driver on an expired license driving for USPS. So the driver is at fault in both cases because they should of been in the country, driving a unsafe vehicle, and federal laws that were broken every which way, but all this is going to be fixed by making not having a CDL a misdemeanor.

But what about all the accidents where the driver had all the appropriate endorsements? How in the world does anyone believe a piece of paper automatically will keep accidents from happening? If only that driver would have renewed his license the accident would have been avoided! Makes no sense to me.

In most cases if existing laws/rules were enforced these things wouldn't happen, it's the same with safety rules, after any accident some group or safety man wants to implement new rules immediately to keep said accident from happening again all the while ignoring that existing rules already in place would have prevented the accident if they had been followed/enforced.
