Minnesota Attorney General joins lawsuit against John Deere over repairs
According to the lawsuit, for decades, Deere has limited the ability of farmers and independent repair technicians to repair Deere equipment.
A few years ago, the MN legislation did pass a law that force auto makers and some other manufactures to make the software available for repair shops, however the bill excluded agriculture equipment. For some reason I thought this had already been decided.
Lawnmowers are even worse. Every brand that has EFI engines have their own cable and software program for a laptop or wireless dongle to smart phone with app download. Everybody can purchase the cable but the software is only available on the dealer only websites for download. Now there are aftermarket code readers for some of the brands but not all, and each reader is engine brand specific. On Thing bad about the tractor industry is no standard like there is with cars and light trucks, mainly the OBDII port and standard error codes.
