If you want to "buy" one...Everlast has a new one coming out and has an existing one. The old one has a tilting table. The new one is adjustable height and is a pack and go type.

Good choice on the reversible vise; I have the Wilton it was copied from, it ended up under my MDVT (MagDrillViseTable) - on the back side is a Grizzly XY table with a couple HF DP vises - gives me a lot of options and lightning fast holes of nearly any size.

Last 2 pics show adding 1/2" flat bar to the 10" channel and surfacing so the mag drill has more magnetic holding power... Steve

Like to see a dedicated thread on just mag drill use.

Have a Milwaukee fabricator mag drill with adjustable base. F/R, variable speed used for tapping after drilling. Sure has helped a DIY shop repair and fabricate.

Just start one.

BukitCase - how did you do the surfacing?

Thanks,
E.
Sure looks like a job with an indexable face mill or a fly cutter on a milling machine

I just saw an interesting video on weld distortion, clamping, and how an assumed 'flat' welding table won't make flat welds.

They're trying to sell their expensive massive table so that's their emphasis. But the lesson we can learn watching, is that distortion is near impossible to eliminate entirely.

You won't miss anything jumping around in this video, or ignoring the middle third entirely. Their main point is that among the three pro welders they went to, none controlled distortion sufficiently to meet the specs they were given.

View attachment 839311View attachment 839312View attachment 839313Most used welding table clamp is a modified bar clamp that uses a 5/8” bolt to table top. Can be used as regular clamp or spreader still. Secures 4” machinists vise horizontally or vertically to the table as needed. Good ground thru the table.

Many attachments for holding options.

Plenty of time to putter with all the rain here. So, I stole your idea and made me a SmokeyDog Clamp. Will probably steal some attachment ideas too. Thanks !

I still like the mini table I assembled. Have some welding projects lined up for it. Now I'm to far from home to do anything. 😁

Weld spatter is a non issue here as most everything I weld is done with TIG. My 'weld table' is 1/4" thick by 4' x 6' HRPO sheet and mounted on 3x3 schedule 80 steel angle on urethane casters with 2 swivel and 2 stationary. Half the table is annular drilled with 3/4" diameter holes for fixture clamping and she weighs complete, around 1000 pounds.

I like overbuilt myself.

I also have an ancient Black & Decker Workmate that I cut and welded a stiffener to the bottom of a 14" x 20" sheet of 1/8" HRPO that I use for small stuff that I MIG. Weld spatter is an issue on that but a quick clean with a flap disc in my air grinder removes it. I use it for small stuff only and the stifferer on the bottom allows me to clamp it in the Workmate when I do require the big table. No fixturing holes so I use welding vise grips to secure things.

Note that HF sells their fixturing sets separately from their weld table and their weld tables can be ganged together to make any size table you require. I use their fixture sets and a set of Langmuir fixture clamps as well. One never has enough. My big table is lugged so I can earth ground it when I'm running high frequency pulsed TIG which is a required parameter for HF TIG.

I have a solid copper earthing rod in the shop, driven 4 feet into the soil with a Tweco style quick disconnect on it so I can cable it to the table when required.

Pulsed HF TIG has to be grounded through the table to the earth simply because of the stray current and besides, I don't want to get knocked on my butt either.

Mini welding table, amateur version.

Here I'm trying an old T-shirt to block light at the back of my helmet. This worked so well that I cut it down a little and attached it permanently.

Small project yesterday to make up a couple crude hinges for fold down stakes on my little wood trailer. I could work in the garage if I moved all the fuel containers and such but it's easier to just roll the table outside when it's a nice day.
