Mini hoe thumb

I have a question for anyone that has a power trac thumb on their mini hoe. Where is the ideal place to fasten it , how far from the bucket? I just had a local company make me one similar to the power trac one and I am not sure what distance from the bucket would be the best place to fasten it . I know it will vary depending on what you want to pick up. Thanks. Also what are the measurements of the thumb?

I am going to say it depends on what you are going to pick up. Mine is a home made one, so I can't talk about the PT one.

My Lackender thumb has two pins sandwiching the boom. There is enough slack that it can slide on the boom. In the beginning, this worked great to allow me to grab a wide variety of sized items by just raising the boom to slide the thumb back. But after a while, real heavy loads have caused the boom to indent where the pins normally hit making it harder to move the thumb.

I am going to have to look, but I don't think my Lackender allow movement on the thumb..

The thumb is not supposed to move when operating unless it is hyd operated.

Just tack weld several places.

Hi JJ,

Mine does not move when actually lifting things. What was nice about it was that I could have it move without getting off the tractor when I needed it to be bigger or smaller. I think it is a very good way of doing it.

I located my thumb on my mini-hoe so the bucket will pinch a sapling when curled it also has a flat plate welded to the bottom of the thumb to maximize the pinch effect
