Has anyone ever converted a garden tractor into a crawler. If so what did it take and what materials did you use.

Check out the following site:

I recently bought a new Magnatrac. It is a powerful little dirt machine.

You might also want to check out the Yahoo group

lots of discussion on various small crawler tractors.

Ive looked through all those links before and ive been a member of a couple crawler clubs. I dont want to buy a used crawler because i would rather build it myself. It would also be a great learning experience. I didnt plan on building it anytime soon just looking for info and parts.

Anyone own a crawler large or small that can post pictures of the undercarriage.

I will try to wrestle the digital camera from my son when he returns home and take a picture of the undercarriage of my dozer. I probably won't get it done tonight, He is at a girls house and most likely won't be home before dark.
For a small dozer such as you are trying to build the undercarriage on mine is pretty substantial with several bogey wheels and top rollers. I don't know if this will help you but I will post it when I can.

Thanks dozer im just looking for idea of how i will go about it. I think i could simplify it if it is too complex. Next year im taking CAD in school and maybe the teacher could help me come up with a simple design. Thanks again

The fellar that build the Cub dozer claims to have several hundred hours into machining the track sections alone.
Might be better off to find a used undercarriage off another machine unless your time is worth a lot less than mine.

His crawler was all custom. he made the track chain himself. I was going to buy an attachment roller chain and bolt plates onto the ears. The plates would have a 1 inch piece of 1/4 inch steel welded perpendicular to the plate. The crawler undercarriage he made is a replica of a cletrac crawler where as mine will be much simpler.
