It has been so wet here for the past few months that everything in the cabin and outbuildings is damp. When I arrived I wet to the closet for my boots and they were covered in blue mildew -- inside and out. I can easily wipe the smooth outside surfaces but the inside is more of a rough out surface. Should I submerse them in order to clean them out or is there something like Lysol that I should spray I there.

put them on and wear them. Then put a desiccant in the closet

alot of the time mine are covered in cow shyt and I don' t worry about it , bleach will clean the socks when they are laundered

Buy a de-humidifier on Amazon for your closet. The brand I have is Frigidaire.

Them boot warmer/driers work great.

I'm glad I don't have that problem. For me it's leaving them wear a critter might make a mess. After a couple times sticking my foot into a boot and getting a scare/surprise... I always bring them in and put them near the fire or heat source. Never out in the garage now. I have also bagged and ziptied them if I know I'm not going to use them for a long period and store them in an unheated area (ski boots) but of course they need to be dry first!

I would mix up a mild bleach water solution, and rinse them out with that before a good clean water flush. Then dry them out with a boot drier. Keep the closet doors open at the cabin to allow a little more air flow and that will probably be enough to keep them mildew free. If it's a small closet you could use a gun safe style goldenrod dehumidifier in there and keep the door closed. Or even a small incandescent light bulb will keep it dry.
