Glad you clarified policies. Some seem hard stuck on US policy alone.

The oil companies have "policies" figured out. 2024 looks to be a another high bar year for them. Why? They play in a global market, not a US defined or influenced one.

But they have always been international, that part hasn't changed. The lower expenses piece is all domestic. Despite inflation driving up costs, relative expenses are down because they are holding off on a lot of investment due to policies. They are effectively cashing out investments. Not sustainable, they are just hoping for regime change in 24.

Murphy USA tore down and rebuilt their store at the local Walmart. They are having their grand opening now and starting a price war with Brookshire's Grocery. Today diesel is down to $3.79.

Crossed from California into Arizona the other day on my way to New Orleans. The price of gas dropped $1/gal as soon as I crossed the state line ($5.30 vs $4.30).

We just got back from a fairly long vacation, went through Iowa, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Nebraska and Missouri and live in Illinois. Surprisingly with very high gas tax in Illinois only Missouri was cheaper. We paid a high of $5.09 in Montana and it seemed like the going rate was $4.09 to $4.19 a gallon. Things got better in Wyoming as from there on as we headed home.
