Well to be expected my local dealer is full of stuff and can not answer the questions I have. /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif

I mowed today with my 413 and all it did was knock down the big stuff. I went back an reverted to my old Sears SS/16 mower and cut around the house. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Went out to the West pasture and at least cut it down with my JD 4100. What a work horse. /w3tcompact/icons/love.gif

But I have questions?????/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

1. How close does the Middeck mow, 1 1/2, 2, 3 inches?

2. What is the raising ability? Can I pull a lever and raise the darn thing up when needed?

3. How heavy it the unit, can it be removed when not needed?

4. When raised what is the clearance, do I have to remove it to use other tools like my 413 mower, box blade? /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

5. What are the down sides to the mower if any?

Any help??

Thanks,
Bill

Bill;
I have a JD 770 with a 60" MMM, am quite pleased with it /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif, I'll try and answer some of your questions, although there may be a few differences between machines.
My manual states that the mowing height can be set from 1~6", I run mine at about 2 3/4",and it mows beautifully /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif.
the deck is raised and lowered with the rockshaft so it is quick and easy, and the deck can be pinned in the raised position to allow the use of 3PH equipment without taking the deck off, real nice! As far as clearence, well you do lose some, but unless you are on really rough terrain it is not a problem, I am able to back blade and till with my deck still on /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.
The weight of the deck is listed @ 325lbs., but you never have to lift it cause you use the guage wheels as casters and just roll it out from under the tractor.
The only downside to the deck is that the guage wheels are used as anti-scalp rollers and the manual says do not use wheels to support the deck while mowing as it may damage the wheels, this tends to cause a little uneveness on turns, but not enough to worry about. The upside for me is that I have lots of trees and obstacles and it is much faster to manuever around them than a 3PH mower.
Well i hope my ramblings help you out a little /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

TxBillyed,

Gotta ask a dumb question - have you read your owners manuals yet?? They would answer most of your questions. I have a 54" on my 4100 and I would imagine that it is very similar to operate.

1. The MMM can be adjusted via the outside caster wheels. There should be a diagram showing the blade height for each adjustment hole.

2. The rocker shaft arm will lift the deck along with the lower arms of the 3pt hitch.

3. previously answered.

4. I would highly suggest that you remove the MMM when using other 3pt hitch implements. Even with the optional locking brackets the MMM deck is prone to get caught up on things. The MMM is pretty tough but having it constantly being banged up by rocks, stumps and the such will damage the blades, caster wheels, and possibly the mounting linkage.

5. It is built to cut lawns not heavy brush.

Get you favorite beverage, find a shady spot, and read those operator manuals. Very informative. I look over mine every few months to refresh my sieve-like memory.... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

O.K. Guys, I've ordered a owners manual and will read it before I go back to the dealer. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif Then I will know more on the subject than they do thanks to you guys. /w3tcompact/icons/love.gif

Thanks,
