Snow Mid-PTO Troubleshooting / B2782 Snow Thrower Weak Stream

I'd take a close look at the fan shear pin again and put a wrench on it or just pull hard on the fan to see if it spins. Quite sure I had something like this occur many years ago. The shear bolt was painted over therefore adhered to the shaft on both sides. It sheared but both sides looked fine. There was enough drag internally that the fan still spun up with no load but immediately would slow and stop under load.

This is where I would stay, cheaper and easier to double/triple check all shear pins first.

I did, after I read this. Everything looks good there. But thanks. I'm thinking it's got to be something simple...

I pulled the blower off, and tipped it up, to get at the cover. Checked that, and the double set screws. One set screw had backed off, the other was still tight.

Surplus Center, Ebay Amazon or Tractor Supply for all have them.
The only question is what adapters you will need to connect them to your tractor.

Just a thought. When I was adjusting my skids on my blower , we’re supposed to get a bunch tonight,I looked at the the fan and wondered which of the two bolts you thought was the sheer bolt. It is not the one that passes through the shaft it is the smaller bolt that holds the joint together. Really don’t know how to explain it but look at both bolts near the shaft that connects the auger to the fan

I was talking to a friend the other day and he had just bought a 1 year old used blower from a guy because it didn't blow well. He got it home and looked it over and there was no shear pin in it. He said he didn't think there was one from the factory even because the hole had intact paint in it. He installed a shear pin and it was blowing snow 20' after that.

FWIW.

I changed the HST, and Hydraulic filters, to see if it could be my problem. It is definitely working properly now. The filters, and fluid (Super UDT), were changed at 600 hours, and I've only got 772 hours on the tractor now. BUT, the filters (and fluid) are 4.5 years old. I'm going to let the filters drain down, then cut them open, to see what's inside.

Left this update for legacy. In case someone finds this in the search to cure their tractor woes.

Still be cautiously optimistic. Looking back, I should have changed these out a lot quicker to troubleshoot.
