Where might I find installation instructions for mid mount valves on a 5420 John Deere 2WD? I want to install a newly purchased loader w/o tying up my rear SCV's.

I went to John Deere dealer today, they printed out the parts list (illustrated parts and numbers). It showed the JD mid mount valve and plumbing parts. They told me if I got the valve, it comes with illustrated installation instructions (say that fast!). The rub is...I have purchased another brand loader (Westendorf). It was more expensive, but has more lift capacity and some features not on the JD 553 loader.
I do not want to use the rear SCV's for the loader as I will need them for other equipment. I was hoping someone has run lines to the rear valve (power after/beyond port) and would be able to advise me was to where it is located? The return I am sure can be plumbed directly back to the transmission case.
My tractor is a 2WD 5420 JD. The parts illustration shows a steel line coming from the bottom of the rear valve into the bottom of the mid mount valve, and then the return going into the trans. case. Does this sound correct?

If your loader has its own valve, you can plump into where the power beyond goes. This is how my neighbor has his loader connected. I have attached a picture I took some time ago. It is the hoses to the right. Looking at the picture, front hose on picture is return and back hose is pressure.
Note this is for a 5x10 tractor would not hurt to double check with JD. I could not get into JD parts this morning, to see if the 5X10 and 5X20 are the same.
Tractordata.com shows the 5420 has open center hydraulics, make sure the valve on the loader is open center as well.
Take a look at selectmanuals.com, you might want to consider order the tech. manual ($40.00).

Thanks, JD5210. I have a valve exactly like the one that you pictured, and the two ports were the ones I thought I needed to use. I did not know which was pressure, which was return, so you were a big help.
I ordered the loader from Westendorf for this specific tractor, I would hope they sent me the right type of valve (loader DOES have it's own valve) because I told them I would be plumbing it permanent. I'll know for sure by the end of the month.

I installed the loader yesterday. Hooked the lines up as illustrated. There is no oil circulation without working the SCV valve control beside those lines. If I have to hold that control open to get oil pressure than that defeats the purpose. Any ideas?

If your tractor is open center hyd, did you install the vaves in series?
An SCV valve is supposed to interrupt the hyd flow and redirect it elsewhere.

Looking at the picture JD5210 posted in reply #3, it looks like you want the the right rear hose for pressure to the loader valve then you want a return hose from the loader valve to the hex plug above it (in the same valve block), not the forward hose.
I would double check with the vendor that the valve is open center. Does the hydraulic pump sound like it is straining/working hard? If it is this leads me to believe it is close center. I believe I have read in other posts that a plug is put in/removed to change the valve type.
Just in case my previous post was not clear and just to double check. The port to the back of the tractor is the excess flow return and the port to the front of the tractor is the pressure. The port on top is the return.
Look at JD parts, power beyond with 2 scv, shows the 2 bottom ports connected together when nothing is connected to the 3 power beyond ports. Can anyone explain the difference between excess flow return and return?
