I took a couple of pictures with the APS camera back on December 12 and scanned them in and am finally posting them.
This shows some serious snowfall for us anyway. By the end of December the tv stations were reporting that we had a record snowfall for the month, about 60" I believe.
One of the pics is the path from my driveway to the barn and the other is from the house towards the road.

Jim -

Holy Moly!

Weather sure ain't distributed evenly in this country. Out here in Californy we're just now bracing for some mild rain /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

BTW - uhhhh, that second picture could use just a little explanation, eh? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

JimBinMI,
I guess I know what you been doing about everyday...either plowing between storms or fighting snow drifts. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif
Looks like that snowblower you had in mine would have almost payed for its self.

Are you pulling a Thomas in the 2nd picture and looking for a rear tire chain. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Jim. Nice pictures. Must have been quite a chore moving all that snow with a back blade /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif . Where's the tractor in the pictures?/w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif Oh, maybe that's Jim looking for his Blue Tractor in the snow pile?/w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif Looks like us Michiganders are in for a warm spell./w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif Temperatures all the way into the lower 30's this week.

Re: Michigan snow, 2nd

Nice pics Jim. About as much as we have in the valley here. Looks like you been having some wind too. Looks like a pretty stiff neck from all the back blading. Did you get the FEL yet?

Now you see, that was the kind of snow we'd been getting for the last couple of years. That's why I went and got the 5' snowblower for the tractor.

So of course, what have we gotten so far his year? Nothing./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif Looks like you've been having fun though /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

PaulinMI,

The Mighty TC18 was snug as a bug in a rug in the barn when the photos were taken! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
All of the snow was moved using a Woods 5' rear blade and turf tires, the TC18 is hydro 4x4 and has filled rear tires (rim guard)

Harv,

That's my 12 year old son preparing to dig a tunnel through the pile...he's just being camera shy...he did get the tunnel dug! However, after the next snowfall it was gone...filled!

Re: Michigan snow, 2nd

Thomas,

That's my 12 year old being camera shy in the pic...don't have any chains to lose! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Haven't bought a snowblower or a FEL...yet! So far, January has come in like a lamb. Lots of people showeling their roofs off around here, mine doesn't have enough to worry about, yet and no major ice damns that are apparent. I have a decent 5/12 pitch on my roof, the roofs that have more snow are 3/12 and 4/12 pitches, mine would, of course be harder to walk on. A co-worker of mine paid two guys from a local roofing company about $75/hour each for two hours to shovel off his roof...ouch!

Take care, JimBinMI

ronjhall,

You're right, it's been a verifiable heat wave around here lately compared to December! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Michigan snow, 2nd

Rowski,

No FEL...yet! January has come in very mild, little bits of snow in the forcasts and warmer temps. I'm not putting my guard down yet though...January and February can be arctic like around here...at least in the past!

Take care, JimBinMI

p.s. - forgot to say, yes, we had some major wind that put us into Blizzard conditions for about 12 hours one day in December.

Re: Michigan snow, 2nd

JimBinMi, Interesting to see your photos and read your comments. I recall seeing on the national weather storms raking the great lakes area. Sort of brings it to life.

Welcome back Jim! You must have been pushing snow instead of computer keys for a couple of weeks. Pretty impressive snow piles. I played neighborhood hero yesterday and cleared out six mailboxes around our house. What fun! One thing you can say about snow, it's great loader practice. Should be interesting when all this melts /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Looks like you might have gotten a bit more snow in the SW than we have here just east of Flint. A Flint TV station was talking about 36" to 37" officially at the airport. I think it might be closer to 42" to 43" so far, which is normal snowfall for the whole winter. We've experienced a lot of drifting snow, meaning I get to (oops....have to) clear the driveway every couple of days.

I've looked into a FEL for the B7100 just as you have for the TC 18. The only loaders I can use (quick attach) are Woods or Great Bend. Both are in the $2,500 range, and with two kids in college, that's probably out of range at this point. And, according to both dealers I talked with, there's probably a 3-4 week wait to get one due to demand generated by all the snow. Fortunately, my neighbor bought a new JD this summer with a FEL and has been more than willing to come move the big snow piles around. Even let me play (oops....I mean work) with it last weekend. An FEL suure would be a dandy addition.

Re: Michigan snow, 2nd

Ya, we were dry since the middle of December.

It's raining now though; hopefully it'll continue. The Sierra's are getting some good snow too; finally!

Only bummer Harv, is pictures of the rain and green grass are not as interesting as these snow pictures /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

FYI for everyone else, both Harv and I are at about 1600' in the foothils of the Sierra, in the classic "Gold Country". We only get snow around here once every 5-10 years, and that's only a light dusting at best. Last time was Christmas of '97.

An hour from here, they tend to get 100's of inches, like around Lake Tahoe, Truckee, ect.

RobertN & Harv.....we have a little extra snow here in Michigan if you'd like to come and get it. Free. Just have to come and pick it up.
