I'll have to admit that glue traps seem cruel to me. No, it is not a logical thing and yes I do hate those meeces to pieces, but I just don't like the idea even though it is effective.

Anyway, as of yesterday we seem to be mouse free for the moment. And since it is turkey season we'll be down there a good bit to keep an eye on things.

Gotta say I'm of the same mind about glue traps. No matter how annoying or small a critter I can't bring myself to torture it like that. I like something that is reliable and humane. When I use traps I'm typically using the rat zapper traps, they often will get multiple mice and the kill rate is 100% and very, very quick.

I guess I am of the mindset that if something that carries disease and illness wants to come into my house then all bets are off.
For me its safer then having traps around since I have a little one and worry about fingers getting snapped.

While it's not good stuff the amount of poison in a mouse relative to the size of a dog shouldn't cause any harm to the dog, the amount would be very small. Best is if a dog or cat doesn't eat a poisoned mouse or rat at all. :)

My Australian Shepard gobbled a cube of ramik she found.

Immediately called Ramik poison hotline... they said based on consumption and my dogs weight it was not a problem... that was 5 years ago.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that someone shouldn't use tape or that there is anything wrong about it. I'm just saying I prefer not to. If the situation gets worse, I might even change my mind.;)

How often do you have to check the Rat Zapper? I suppose it would have to be an every day thing otherwise mice would turn to goo.

George, I posted earlier about my success with a sticky trap...we had been trying to get a mouse like you...they kept eating the cheese and we could not get him...I finally used that sticky trap and when I saw him on it he was struggling to get off and could not...I took him outside and tried to shake him off...No go..so I had to turn it upside down on the lawn and stomp him...That is why I deleted my previous post...I did not enjoy that...but on the other hand, you as an MD know full well how nasty they are and the disease they carry...So if it gets down to us or the mice...I vote for us...You ?:)

We had field mouse really bad last year with the drought. Every visit to our place we had mice in the toilets and scraps left in hiding places, like candy wrappers from the younguns. It let to an increased amount of snake traffic which just ain't gonna fly. I used a multi-pronged approach and they haven't been back yet. Traps, warfarin, and electronic.

Hmmm...They were in the toilet! Good idea!

Do the bucket trap except use the toilet instead of a bucket and then just flush them!

I check mine probably weekly. It depends on how many mice you have, I find that after 2 - 3 no additional ones will go in it. it only sends the shock through the feet when the mouse steps across two plates, so the ones in there aren't getting cooked or anything. Depending on how warm it is, like any other trap except maybe water they start to stink, so you want to clean it before that happens. Emptying it is easy because there's no mechanism, you just dump it out and you're done (unless you let one get good and rotten and then you have to clean it, which isn't fun)
