Mice or squirrels are chewing the insulation off the coil pack wires in my work truck. Has anyone used anything like fingernail polish on the wires as a repair to prevent them shorting out?

They sell liquid brush on products for wire insulation. Plus there are also spray on products that harden.

I put out pet proof poison bait stations because of this.

In past years I've used many methods to eliminate mice. Then I realized - for every mouse eliminated - there are two more out in the brush - "waiting to come on down".

I keep the hood open on the tractor - year round. They seem to dislike this open environment. On the Taco Wagon( 2018 Ram Power Wagon ) I continuously rotate various deterrents. Peppermint oil, dryer sheets, moth balls, cinnamon oil, human urine, human hair tied up in cloth sacks, etc.

Nothing, so far, works forever. Rotating various deterrents seems to work about the best.

I've had mice & chipmunks in the engine compartment of the Taco Wagon. Never once have they chewed any wiring. Perhaps because the wire coating is formulated from petroleum - not vegetable oil. A unique feature of the Power Wagon - perhaps.

Thanks for all the tips. Now that you mentioned it is probably Chipmunks as well cuz we have a lot of them.

Snake s##t works too, they seem to recognize the smell and avoid, find someone with a pet python.
Does not have to be fresh.

I like the liquid tape for repairs or if a wire is pierced for testing.
However I have resorted to buying several small containers at a time for a few reasons,
people that borrow it, plus the worst is opening a half used container and it has all set up
or thicken so much you can't spread it.

I am going to start with this. I haven't had a Boa constrictor for years but if I did I would like to try that.

Haven't really had a problem wwith cars etc but we have with mice chewing wiring in the ceiling, a woman I worked with had a couple of pet pythons and she told me about it and gave me some dried stuff, it worked, no more patter of little feet during the night, lasted about 6 months

We had a problem with mice chewing the wires on our ZTR at the trap club. One of the members suggested putting some dryer sheets into the compartment where they would nest. We did and haven't had a problem for a year and a half.
