I have a case 235 hydrostatic drive with mfd. I engages fine and when I look at the driveshaft it is spinning but no power to the front wheels.
This is my first tractor and only know what I've read in the owners manual.
Does it have a regular pumpkin with ring, pinion, spider gears, etc...is there maybe a key that could have busted?
Any help would be apreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

Check to see if that front driveshaft turns all the time when the tractor is rolling.. I've seen some designs that do.

I'm not familiar with your tractor type.. so can't comment on it specifically past telling you to get out your owners and aprts manual and start taking things apart till you can observe the specific inner workings at coupling points.

The driveshaft only turns when I engage the 4 wheel drive (mfd), when not engaged, it doesn't turn.
figured I might have to just start tearing into it but was hopeing for a good starting point or maybe some "common" breaking points.

Here's a picture of me offloading it, maybe that will help with identification(only picture I have)

Your tractor was made by Mitsubishi. You might want to vist that forum and look up Bill Rodgers at mitsubhi****ractorparts.com or Len Sheaffer at Sheaffer's Town and Country tractors. Both are good. Others are good too but these are the two that I know. They post frequently here on the Mits. forum. If the driveshaft spins only when the fwd is engaged something is not making contact in the front differential. Some parts may be missing if you don't even hear a grinding noise. Normally I think the driveshaft should be spun by front wheel movement regardless of whether the 4wd is engaged. Welcome to TBN!

Can you put it on a concrete drive, jack up the rear end (with a floor jack with wheels), then carefully start unit and engage front drive, then do what ever it is you do to try to get it to go forward. Back wheel should be turning, and if front is working, it should (in my opinion) pull you along. Maybe if it is true HST, back may turn with out front turning, if that is the case, apply brakes (to stop back from turning), making the front engage. Listen for any unusual noise, popping, grinding, etc. Good luck.

My tractor has two ways to disengage the fwd that are completely independent( a clutch on the front, and a gear engagement in the tranny). Have you pulled/pushed all of the necessary levers?

I had it in the mud (which I think would replicate the same thing) and the front never spun or made any noise at all.
Thanks

I did everything it said in the owners manual and pretty much tried everything.

Also, I lifted the front end and both wheels spin independantly, no connection felt at all, not sure if they are supposed to spin oposite or not at all.

The driveshaft should turn whenever the front wheels are turning (there aren't anything like locking hubs on any tractors I know about). If it only turns when you engage 4wd the transmission/tranfer case is working and something in the front end is broke. Yes it does have a ring, pinion, and maybe a key that could have busted? There might even be a shear pin on the diff end of the drive shaft. My guess is a broken axle if the wheels spin independantly.
