Nevermind. The center port (part #4 - Core, Reservoir) spins out. We put a cut down bolt though the sideways holes in it and used a large socket to unscrew it.

Now I'm fighting that whole lid, bolt, spring, fiber washer, filter setup. What a pain! Just checking and adding fluid is a major undertaking as you're fighting the spring, the lid gasket won't stay in place, all that!

You're welcome, glad to help!

Dangit. Forgot to mention that to ya. Yeah, it threw me for a loop, too. I used a (probably) 1/4" allen wrench, put the short side through the center port, then used a ratchet on the other end of the allen wrench to spin it out. Give that a try for reinstallation.

Also, yes, the lid is a huge pain in the butt. Once the gasket fuses to the lid it gets a little easier.

It's back together and running! I filled it with UTF from the local farm store. Shaeff (or anyone else with the same tractor), how much assist do you get from your power steering? When I have the loader bucket in the air, I can turn the steering wheel with medium resistance -- like almost needing two hands but not quite. If the engine is off, I can't turn the wheel at all by hand, so the power steering is definitely doing something. I'm just not sure if the assist I'm getting is normal or not.

Speaking of which, shaeff, sometimes I think you and I are the only two people left in the world with a gas MF35 utility. I'm sure that's not the case but there don't seem to be a lot of us out there! :D

Nice! I get a LOT of assist. I can have a full bucket of dirt, stone, whatever... and turn the wheel with my pinky. With the tractor off I can hardly move the wheels, it's VERY tight. Also note- running these things with no power assist will eventually destroy the steering box, especially with the pump not running. I know you're not doing that but for anyone else who might be.

I wonder if you have a partially collapsed line or something? Or maybe your steering cylinders are internally bypassing causing more effort to turn the wheel?

How much back and forth slop do you have in the wheel with the tractor at idle, no load in the bucket? Example: how far do you have to turn the steering wheel before the wheels actually start moving? Do it one direction, then from that point of engagement back to the other direction.

Mine had probably 6-8" of slop, but that's easily fixed, which I can explain if you have that issue as well.

I feel the same way, like there are two of us here with these machines haha! I know there are more of us, but I just don't think they post much. For what it's worth, the Massey Ferguson 202 is functionally identical to ours, basically just different sheet metal. There is another forum (yesterdaystractors.com) that has a few 35 Utilities that post around.

Problem is, most don't post until there's an issue haha. These machines are pretty reliable for how old they are.

Hello, I know this is a older thread, but I’m doing the same for my MF202. Having trouble finding a replacement seal. Where did anyone get one? Or a kit with the correct seal o-ring and filter?

Site/store would be great. And part number of the kit is something different.

*edit*
I looked at the pump part # 191423M92 that the seal #834089M1 goes it. It’s very similar but not the same as my #1021971M1. Can anyone clear this up for me?

Size of my old seal is .875” OD. .25”width. The shaft the seal fits through (ID) is .435”.

It’s small, barely fits on my pinky finger with the rubber seal part missing.

Late reply, been busy! I get my stuff through the local AGCO dealer unless I can match up a suitable replacement using measurements. There were two different pumps available on these machines, dependent on what year it was produced. Do you know if you have a Barnes pump (old style) or a Cessna pump (new style).

The pictures posted above are of a Cessna pump if that helps you identify yours.
