MF 35 petrol
Hello all

Ive bought a small farm where I found an old MF35 petrol in the barn.

It started fine, but it makes a strange hammering noise. The interval between two knocks is about a secund and it seems it doesnt change if I give it some throttle.

See the video here:

Hope that someone could help me out, whats causing this noise.

Hi Jacob, Welcome to TBN. :) Can you report the link? The one in your original post doesn't work. Thanks.

That's an interesting sound for sure. Does the three point hitch work? How about the PTO?

Are the four studs (two on each side) that hold the hydraulic pump in position snugged down tight? Almost sounds like the hydraulic pump is knocking back and forth.

Yes, I had tried that, buy it didn't work; tried it again and also tried searching the first few characters - again, no luck.
Is the noise related to engine speed - that is, does it quicken when the engine speed is increased a little? If it does Shaeff could be correct in suspecting the pump area. Does pushing the clutch change it at all - include 2nd stage if equipped. Have you driven it at all, or only started it?

Yep, the knocking sound does indeed increase with engine speed. My machine made a sound similar to that when I didn't set the pump quite right. I ended up loosening the nuts just a touch with the machine running and PTO engaged at idle, then tightened them again. If I recall correctly, you're supposed to tighten the right side first. (I think!)

Patrick, try this:

That works for me on my iPhone and my PC.

Okay thank you all for your suggestions. I will try to check the pump. Where exactly is it located?

I have driven the tractor and apart from the noise it runs fine.

Move the position lever forward out of the constant pumping position. The stop could be out of adjustment. Keep moving the lever forward till it stops, then reset the stop. I will try and find the post that expllains better by an experienced mechanic.http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...65883-hydraulic-pump-knocking.html?highlight= check out post #8

I reckon you're correct there. I noticed our 135 will make a similar and severe knocking noise relative to engine speed if the position lever is just a tad too far raised - I know to immediately lower it a little. Nowadays it also knocks lightly if it has to lift something heavier than an implement with the crane - I minimise the time it's in the air then too.

I read that thread too - good spot there - that's great info. But it tells me there's now another entry in the "One Day Book".
