MF240 sticky clutch

Hi Guys,

I've got an MF240 here with a clutch that is playing up while mowing, i mow in High 2nd at ~540rpm and am finding 1/3 times now maybe when going to reverse I struggle to get it out of 2nd, and then graunch it terribly going into reverse (even though I've stopped before going to neutral then reverse).

I can feel the tension in the gearstick when it's going to do it and have found popping the clutch a couple of times can free it up and then a normal shift can be made. (Dumping pedal for a brief moment from stopped so the tractor jumps)

I gather this means the clutch is not properly disengaging but I wondered if anyone would hazard a guess as to why, only occasionally, and not, after a brief jab of the clutch. I do know the inner workings of a clutch however can't say I've ever set eyes on a split MF. Anything obvious going on here?

4x4? Running in all wheel drive?

I'm thinking that if you are in 4w, it may be load on the front wheels causing the troubles. If on level ground is it doing it? Or is it only on slopes?

I experience this at times if I am on a slope. I usually let the tractor roll a bit in neutral and then try again. In my case, I am pretty sure it is not the clutch playing up.

Similar symptoms as trying to change gears around a corner in a diff locked 4x4 but it's a 2 wheeler. Definitely a new problem. We have 6 of them and only this one has started doing it
