mf231
Hey All, we have an MF231 that has had issues since last winter. It will blow a lot of blue smoke and drip some oil out the breather tube after it has been running for 15 or 20 minutes. It occurs quicker if it is being run and worked in high vs low range. It was never an issue and the tractor has been problem free right up until the fuel filter gelled up and we had to change it during a cold snap. We had to bleed an injector to get it to start back up again and shortly there after the issue started. It still starts and runs well and does not go through significant amounts of oil. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Do you work it hard or is it might duty work?

I would not consider it hard work. Just back and forth bucketing snow. It may see a few hours occasionally for some bush hogging or discing but pretty minimal.

You could try to let it work real hard for an hour, that might help.

"diesel slobbering" is the tech. term. Lol
Stuck oil rings from sitting?? {very common}
Over filled oil, from a leaking inj. pump front seal?? {very common}
Blue smoke is generally burning oil.. {incase u didn't know}

Any suggestions on a way to "unstick" the rings? Oil doesnt show overfilled, checks ok.

You could try pouring some wd40 on top of the pistons. Let it soak in a couple nights. Pull injectors first though. Leave injectors out after a few nights turn engine over with injectors out. See how much shoots out or if it soaked by rings. It will usually loosen stuck rings. Can try a little penetrating oil too.

could be just excessive oil pressure, if it has the oil breather on top of the valve cover it could be clogged

LOL.. I was JUST coming over to this site to write THAT "dog"..Lol
If your dead set on trying to unstick some oil rings?? 1/2 ATF & 1/2 mineral spirits/acetone.. ATF will eat the carbon & the atone/ ms. just add alittle flow to the mix..
It DOES take alittle time tho.. Pull the injectors, put the mix in the inj. holes & cover.. let it sit for a week or so.. u can add more to the cylinders if u like..
When its ready to check.. clear all/any debris away from the hole & spin the engine until the mixture has spit out the inj. holes.. reinstall the injectors & work the snot outta it.. get it nice & warm/hot.. & hopefully the rings will have broke free..
Good luck

Just let it work real hard, pulling as hard as it can.
This does cure a lot of problems with engines that are in good shape, cost very little and and is easy to do.
