MF1648 won't turn over

2011 mf 1648. I was using it yesterday and backed up to an implement. Shut it off to hook up but realized I needed to move tractor closer. Got back on and turned key but no response from tractor. The ignition lights and glow plug light work. But that's it. Made sure the pto wasn't on and brake set and everything in neutral but nothing. Its like a safety switch is stuck. Any ideas where to look first?

Check battery cable connections could be supply enough to light up the system but not to turn the starter.

Ok thanks. Will do. Should I try to jump in power directly to the solenoid?

Are you sure you're in neutral ?

As TSO points out you will be bypassing ALL safety switches if you do that. I would pull the cables off the battery and clean them, most likely where issue is. Have had them to "glaze" over there so almost missed noticing it.

It finally started, ran normally for a while. But is acting up again. It is directly related to the seat safety switch. When i stand up to get off tractor while its idling and brake set and out of gear, it will immediately die.

Then bypass that switch.

Use a zip tie. I've done that on both my 1648 &1652.

I may be totally wrong, but if it is suppose to run in the above situation doubt it is the switch itself. Normally those switches are simple device either open or closed, two wires you and easy jump to see. It probably is a rely or what ever picks up on what the combo of all safety switches settings are. I would think one of the other safety switches is the issue that is telling it safe for operator to leave the seat. In this case test the switches for out of gear, pto off and such. kt
