My baler gave me fits today. It would bale fine and then not tie the string on one side. I can't seem to see anything out of the ordinary, but when it malfunctions there is a wad of string that I remove. I called a baler mechanic, his solution was a NH 276 he has for sale. Any ideas?

Check the billhook assy, make sure internal spring that keeps tension on billhook lever is not stuck or broken. may need to take apart to clean it if it is stuck with dust buildup over time. Let us know what you find, when you pry on hook to open it with screwdriver both should snap back toward closed by spring tension.

I took both knotters apart and cleaned. There was a lot of debris and twine pieces in them. I got one bale to tie correctly when the most awful noise started. I shut everything down to find the idler sprocket on the main drive chain had failed. Parts where on the ground and further inspection the packers are all bent up. I'm not really sure at this point if I have the will to fix it this time. I think $175 a ton for scrap is sounding good. Thanks for the advise. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

I don't know what you have for a book but I fixed my MF 3 baler with a borrowed JD 336 owners manual.I believe all knotters are the same.Good luck!

MF 3, 10, 9, and 12 twine balers knotter has many more moving parts than 124-128 twine baler does. First time I saw a 124 twine knotter at service school I didn't think there were enough parts to tie a knot, but really works slick.

Any ideas where to buy parts for this baler? I need a sprocket with the bearing.

Not really. The SureTie knotters on my MF124 are a lot less complicated mechanisms than the knotters on my neighbor's New Holland square baler.
