Thanks for all the great info. Are those the most recent publications or are there newer ones?

Hey Wacky, I sure hope these are the latest publications, because I just purchased them this Spring, and they were a little pricey,. KC

Hey ray66v, thanks for the info, I did not know there was a different anti-freeze for diesels. I will check at my local auto parts store, since I will not be changing the fluid out until November,. KC

Diesel engines have special needs, requiring an additive package that regular antifreeze does not have.

Most auto parts stores, at least in my area, don't have it.

You can purchase the DCA additive, and add it to what every type you want. But, usually that is only available at truck part stores.

There are also test strips you can buy, to make sure your DCA is in the proper range.

If you have a Tractor Supply, they sell Fleetguard antifreeze, it has the additive, for a reasonable price. This is what I am using.

I am not changing my antifreeze annually now, I just test it.

Thanks for the info...I'm planning on channing my antifreeze this Fall.

Sorry, I'm a black and gold fan...but hey, at least you orange and brown fans can revel in the fact that you no longer have to watch Brady Quinn (who by the way had a "0" QB rating at one point in Denver.

I can not believe that there are still people here crying about getting rid of him. :confused2:

If the boy ever learns how to read an NFL defense, and how to put some touch on the shorter passes, he could have SOME potential. I won't hold my breath.

For now, there has been, and still will be, only 2 games I care if we win. I am sure you can guess which 2.

I was looking at the Napa antifreeze and it has on the back that it is recommended for a Cummins part number. Does this mean it is suitable for some diesels?

Also the Amsoil hydro fluid, would that be recommended for the front axle also. I want to vent the front axle to use the thinner fluid. I worry about the fluid transfer in the cold being too slow with gear oil.

You could probably use any antifreeze if you change it annually, like the schedule says. However, using a heavy duty diesel antifreeze is cheap insurance.

The Amsoil ATH meets the requirements of the original fluid, Permatran. So, of course, you can use it in the front diff. However, using gear lube is also specified, and since it is able to withstand higher pressures, it is a better choice.

If your worried about low temperature performance, use a synthetic gear oil. AMSOIL Synthetic Gear Lube SAE 80W-90, has a pour point of -42F. And Sever Gear goes to -50F

The gear oil is not as thick as you think. It is quite similar to the hydraulic fluid. I really don't think it is an issue. There should be enough residual oil on the gears to do the job, even if the fluid gets slow moving.

Thanks! I will also be changing to all synthetic after the 50hr. By the way, do you use 10W30 Amsoil, or 15W40?

I use the 10w30/sae 30 heavy duty diesel oil.

They now say it is for 2007 and older engines. Mine is a 2005. So, you may want to call them, and talk to a technician. Ask for an oil recommendation in your tractor.

They are more than happy to do this.
