MF GC1710 RPM

I understand that the GC1710 reaches its rated HP at 2600 RPM. Is there a rev limiter that keeps the RPM at 2600 max, or can you go above 2600?

The GC1705 and 1710 are governed at 2700. The GC1715 and 1720 are set at 3000. Same motor in every way. That's how they get the horse power difference.

I've heard several different stories on this. Some people say that the GC1715 and GC1720 also have fuel injection pumps with slightly more capacity. Who knows? Maybe we'd have to get to know an engineer in Japan to really find out for sure.

If it's just the governor setting I'm surprised no one's figure out how to hack it. Or maybe they have and are keeping it to themselves.

A diesel engine runs on three things; air, fuel and compression. The air and compression are the same, that leave fuel. The 1715 and 1720 get slightly more fuel to get the extra horsepower.

A 1705 and 1710 can be made to equal the 1715 and 1720 with turning up the fuel and adding a shim for timing.

That is one way to get it, but by turning up the fuel you get more Hp/Tq at all levels of the power curve.

I have not done it, but have looked into it. You need to update to the 1715/20 governor stop, which is slightly smaller. The hard part is putting in the correct shim on the injector pump to match the increase in fuel flow, as there are 13 thickness to choose from. I talked with a few injector pump guys and they told me I would need to send it in to set the injector timing with the correct shim. So because of that, I have not done it yet.

That USFS road book is the best I've seen about the proper way to build a road.
