3-Point Hitch MF 230 3 point hitch

Hey everyone, this is my first post. I have a 230 massey that the 3 point hitch doesnt work right on. With anything hooked up to it with the draft control lever in the most upright position and the position control lever in the most up position you can put any amount of weight onto it and it will slowly go back down to the ground, in seconds. It also has a hard time picking up heavy implements. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like its in your draft control. Im working on one as we speak. Im having to take the spring out and adjust there and also am having to replace the the seals in the piston. Not an easy job put you can do it if you have a shop work book. You will have to pull the lift section off the tractor.

Talk to your local MF dealer if one is close, if not shop around on the internet. I have an I&T shop manual that some who have used both it and the original manufacturers manual say it lacks detail, and in some cases contains erroneous information. I haven't used mine for a major overhaul but did use it to fix a similar problem as yours on my 135. Followed the specs and tolerances in the manual and it fixed my problems.

There is another thread called "135 lift problems" on much of the same subject. Is there a special tool you need to adjust the main spring? Do you have to remove the spring? The manual shows it being adjusted in place with a tool FT 358 on my MF245 which I think is similar to the 230.

The draft spring can be adjusted using the special spanner but the assembly has to be removed to set the spring tension first.
