Replaced the original gauge which had never moved since I owned the tractor with a $20 gauge from auto parts store that has numerical reading not low, medium, high. At startup its reading 52 #. I did just change the oil with fresh 15w-40. Manual says normal pressure is 20-35#, so is the gauge inaccurate or will the pressure even out as the tractor warms up and the oil gets a little time on it? Thanks

The gauge is most likely correct. You've had NOTHING to compare it to for all this time and you're reading 52 PSI at cold start up? That doesn't sound problematic to me. Run it for a while and see what you have. 10 to 15 at idle with engine warm would be fine and 25 + at higher RPM would be more than sufficient.

Cold oil has a higher viscosity than warm oil, that's why they came up with multi viscosity oil. Had you been using a straight forty weight your pressure would have been MUCH higher, perhaps eighty pounds!! Let the engine warm and watch the pressure change. It will be lowest at idle then raise to a higher pressure when running or working.
