I have a MF 165 and the arms go up and down but when i put load on them they go down, ive checked the strainer, changed the oil, isolated the main diversion valve to rule out the main piston and seals, think the pressure relief valve is faulty as i cant hear the pump any more, but have flow and low pressure, can the valve be changed without the removal of the top cover?

I do believe there is a pressure test port on the left side on or near the inspection plate. At least I'm pretty sure there is one on my 180. It's been several years since I went through it, and been too many projects since. I have a manual, but not here right with me. If I remember later today, I will get it from the shop, and try and scan a pic of the port.

As for geting to the valve... If I looked right on the AGCO site as to the location of the relief valve, don't think you can change it without removing the tranny top, and more. Below is the picture of the pumps in my 180. The shiny one, is the aux. pump, and the main pump is below that, behind the brackets tha hold it all in place.

I may be all wet here, as I forget if that valve is adjustable, or pre-set with the springs pressure, or even if this is the correct valve.

Again, I will try and remember to get the manual, and read up on it this evening.

You may also get a better response to your question in the Massey section, listed below in specific brands.

If you search my threads I took a bunch of pictures of the hydraulic system from a 135 which should be identical.

Since it is a slow leak that means fluid is slowing making its way out of the ram cylinder. It could be the rings but you claim that isn't the issues. If you take the side plate off with the response control lever you could operate the lift with something heavy and see if you can tell where it is leaking.

A very common issue is with theo rings on the stand pipe. It is what connects the pump to the cylinder. There is a access plate between your seat and shifter. Have an access port for running secondary hydraulics.

Doesn't seem like it would be the relief valve since it is a slow leak, but if you look inside that side plate you get access to everything and it's a bunch easier that taking the lift cover off. Be careful though as you take the bottom bolt of the side plate off fluid will start coming out.

Thanks for the information mate, i took the top cover off and found a quadrant lever had fallen off, i stuck a pressure gauge in the outlet of the pump and checked the pressure while i was in there, all good. Reassembled and all working fine.
