Hello, I'm new member to the forum but visited numerous times as there is plenty of good information here. I keep coming back for information so I thought it was time to join.
I have a 1970 Massey Ferguson 135 with a gas engine and Zenith carbeurator. I bought it about six years ago and other than replacing some hyrdraulic hoses and an auxillary hydraulic pump I haven't had any problems; well, until now. We had a bit of snow last week and I was out plowing when the tractor tried to die. I found I could keep it running by pulling out the choke; but with reduced power. After a while, even that didn't work well. It would idle fine and would start to die as soon as I put it under a load. I also found that if I put the choke in fast, it will try to die. If I put it in slowly, it will idle just fine.
I thought there might be some water in the gas, so on the adivce of a mechanic I put Dry Gas in the fuel tank, which did not help. I also tried putting some carbeurator cleaner in the fuel and also sprayed some clener in the air intake. I also drained the carbeurator bowl. Nothing seems to be working. Any ideas on what I should try next? I'm not a mechanic, but am trying to learn to be on my own equipment. Thanks.
