mf hay baler 128
I have an MF128 hay baler, my problem is the metering arm which runs on a knurled roller keeps slipping when material is not going thru the baler. Why MF did not use gear on gear like JD I don't know. I have replaced the arm the roller checked clearances tried driving slow/fast but that constant plunger pounding espicially on turns the meter arm just vibrates down. To sum this up can this be converted to a JD style bale length metering system or does somebody got some ideas?

I'am not quite sure if its like the older New Holland's metering arm and wheel but I know on them you have to move the wheel ever so slightly {slotted holes where it's bolted to the bale chamber} to add a bit more tension on the wheel to keep it from vibrating down.Just thought I'd mention this in case it gives you something to check out on yours.Larry

will give it a try, I forgot to mention I put a slot on the back of the arm and attacted a couple of rubber bands for tension, worked fine for 560 bales till by neighbor used it.

Now that you mentioned about rubber bands I did a quick walk out to my old New Holland and its actually got a spring on the end of the arm keeping it tensioned to the metering wheel. But being a different make baler the massey could be set up different. Larry

Don't know if this will help, but here's a few shots of the metering arm on my MF124 baler.

The knurling on the drive wheel looks pretty good, but there's quite a bit of wear on the metering arm knurling. I haven't used this baler much at all so I don't know if I'm heading for the type of problem you're experiencing. I just make the adjustments per the manual and go from there.
