I needed a place for my Polaris 4x4 and my regular garage didn't have the space. I also needed seasonal storage for my deck furniture, a push mower, a 3 pt hitch broadcast spreader, etc. I picked up a single trip 20' storage container with doors at each end. It was in great shape (no dings, no dents, perfect door seals). I set it on treated square timbers after making sure they would give me a bit of slope to aid in shedding water from the roof.
After placing all the items in the container, I found myself with no floor space left but lots of wasted space above the items. I knew I'd find more things to put in the container. I decided to add a "mezzanine deck" to the container which gave me nearly 30 sq ft of additional space.
I put eye bolts in a shelf I made from left over lumber and pallet scraps. The chain can be adjusted for length allowing me to easily position the new shelf as necessary. The container already had anchor points along the roof line and these were used these to secure the other end of the chain.
I currently have a handful of RC airplanes stored on the shelf....my own private hanger.
The best part about the container is the two sets of doors. I don't have to unstack half of the container when I need to get something out of it.
