Fuel dealers frequently stock methanol. Race tracks do too. Also check out prices of WWF in 55 gallon drums.

AAAHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhh are you insane?!?!?!!? The Methanol you are suggesting is RACE FUEL! It will ignite if you LOOK at it crosseyed........
Static is a huge risk around that concentration. I would not think it a good idea to attempt diluting with water rather stick with a commercially available mixture like wwf.

Pure methanol burns with no visible flame. Very dangerous to say the least,

Autozone will sell WWF by the 55 gallon drum but you have to ask. Last fall I was quoted a little over a buck a gallon for -25. But if you do use WWF make sure you get a formula that will go low enough for your conditions.

No I am not insane nor am I a hysterical weenie. Methanol is FAR less dangerous than propane or gasoline which we all deal with routinely and no part of mixing it with water involves exposure to flames etc. WWF is methanol plus water plus colorant. When's the last time your car exploded while pouring in WWF?

WWF is a very low concentration of methanol. Pure methanol can ignite with a static discharge. Attempting to mix it, even with water- using the wrong type of tools can be really bad. all it takes is static discharge and "woof".

I would suggest that Methanol IS EXTREMELY dangerous because it is odorless, colorless and burns without color. Hydrocarbons have an odor, either naturally or added so we may detect it.

Methanol is a common solvent and like acetone and a few other solvents used every day in chemistry laboratories can be handled safely without unusual precautions by anyone who doesn't behave foolishly. You can buy it in pure form in your local pharmacy where it is not kept under lock and key but is right out on the shelf. Yes it burns, that is why it is used to fuel domestic serving dish heaters and fondue pots. A lot of other substances we have around our homes also burn. Did you ever spill a bit of gas while refueling your lawn mower?. The point here is simply that you can buy it in bulk and dilute it yourself to save a few bucks. I don't recall any explosions caused by individuals diluting methanol and there were probably more injuries in the USA last year associated with putting Mentos into diet soda than with folks diluting methanol. Read the safety information and don't be stupid and it is a very safe chemical to manage.

IT .. remember.. some people are of the mind that the govt needs to protect us from ourselves.. the same group usually is afraid of many other things. free thought.. etc.. etc. same kind may not have survived.. or at least left their house back in the day when tractors may have had steel wheels. trike front ends.. no rops, seatbelt or other safety features... back when we made our own soap ( lye anybody? ), split wheel rims, and 5 million other things that have danger associated with them, that you can still do safely if you try a little.

Whats the best way to get methanol? Im thinking of adding it all my self so that i don't have to pay the dealer for the water?

Where you in MO? We sell methanol at the lubricants distributorship I manage in Joplin. We can also get tire grade (used) methanol very reasonably.
